Abstract: Mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signal transduction pathway exists in all eukaryotic cells involved widely in cell growth, differentiation, reproduction, apoptosis, anti-stress and other physiological processes. It transducts signals from outside to the cytoplasm or nucleus by a conserved three-kinase cascade, phosphorylating intracellular substrate proteins or transcription factors to regulate physiological processes. Currently, most of the knowledge about the mechanisms of the MAPK pathway focuses on the mammalian system, with an emphasis on its relationship to human disease and the pathway. So far basic knowledge of the MAPK pathway in aquatic invertebrates is limited. In this article, combined data collected in our laboratory, we review the research advance on MAPK pathway in aquatic invertebrates to date and propose future development to the field.
Key word: Mitogen-activated protein kinase;signal transduction pathway; aquatic invertebrate
