Abstract: Regulatory T (Treg) cells play a key role in the maintenance of immune homeostasis and tolerance and the transcription factor FOXP3 is essential for its development and differentiation. The function of FOXP3 is delicately regulated at multiply levels, including transcriptional, translational and post-translational modification. Regulatory T cells accumulate in tumor microenvironment and play a role in promoting tumor escape. The antitumor response could be greatly improved by elimination and activity inhibition of Tregs at the tumor microenvironment. Understanding the mechanism of functional regulation and identifying special markers of Tregs will stimulate new ideas and directions for anti-tumor immunotherapy.
